Real Madrid is one of the most successful teams in the history of the Champions League, having won the competition a record 13 times. The club’s first European Cup triumph came in 1956, and they went on to win the competition in each of the next four seasons. After a period of relative drought, Real Madrid won their fifth Champions League title in 1966, and then went on to win the competition three more times in the 1990s. The turn of the century saw Real Madrid struggle in Europe, but they bounced back in 2014 to win their 10th Champions League title, with a thrilling victory over city rivals Atletico Madrid. Since then, they have won the competition a further three times, cementing their status as the most successful club in the history of the Champions League.
